It is no wonder that Madagascar Tourism Board is actively promoting the destination in the Indian Travel Market. Tourism is currently the second largest foreign exchange earner in the country, and the government hopes to increase this share. Still in the early stages of development, there is large potential for the tourist industry to grow as Madagascar’s infrastructure improves.
Madagascar is one of the most beautiful touristic destinations in the world and is a well-known tourist destination for activities such as safaris, baobab trees discovery, and idling on beaches.
The Treasure Island is unique: 5% of all known animal and plant species can be found here, and here alone. The island’s signature animal is the lemur : more than 100 species, all of them endemic. But there are many more weird and wonderful creatures and plants: baobabs, insects, whales, frogs, orchids, palms, birds, turtles, mongoose.
The remarkable fauna and flora is matched by epic landscapes of an incredible diversity: you can go from rainforest to desert in just 300km.
There are fantastic sights to discover within a unique history, but also numerous opportunities to meet local people and immerse yourself in their world: in village stays, long-distance trails, festivals, taxi-brousse (bush taxis) and Friday night discos.
This makes tourism one of the mainstays of the State’s economy and for any traveller, a favorite place where to spend time in and come back for more.
